96 Hough Hill, Charnwood View

This was one of a pair of cottages built in 1903 and named Charnwood View.

The census enumerator did not use house numbers, so it is difficult to be certain which 1911 census property relates to each modern day house. However, as the enumerator was working south to north along Main Street, the assumption has been made that the families were recorded in this order.

Joseph Horne, a coal miner, his wife, two daughters and son. Leonard Thomas Horne was a 13 year old schoolboy in 1911, who by 1918 was 214132 Gunner, No 3 Siege Artillery, Reserve Brigade.
